Cinderbox is dedicated to practicing the craft of storytelling while building cloud-based systems for long-term collaboration and agile development of branded entertainment. Every tool in the studio is wired to a living pipeline that lets a project evolve over time through iterations and explorations of new tools and workflows.

Every project starts with a story problem, not a tool. The early, messy work of research, sketching and writing blends into AI collage and remix, so the character is refined faster and reaches modeling, rendering and its story world sooner.
A defined story problem or project challenge. Research the world, the audience, the question.
Fast thumbnails and silhouettes to find the character before any tool gets involved.
Scenes, bios and the voice of the character on the page.
Sketches, notes and artifacts fed into AI to collage, remix and blend new directions.
Pick the keeper, lock the design and the model sheet.
The refined design shortens sculpting, texturing and look dev.
The character moves into its world and is performed, filmed and given life.
Seven hundred years ago Dante Alighieri mapped a journey in three parts: lost in the dark wood, the long climb, and finally the light. Every story that moves through Cinderbox makes the same trip. The stages below are grouped the way the Commedia is, because making something is still a pilgrimage, whatever tools come along.
Every project starts lost. A story problem, research, doubt, and the first rough sketches and pages. This is where the fear of the blank page gets faced, not avoided.
"For the straightforward pathway had been lost."
The long work of refinement. Collage and remix, previs, capture, sculpting, building and lighting. Each pass burns off what isn't working until the character holds.
"To run o'er better waters hoists its sail / The little vessel of my genius now."
The character is performed, finished and shipped into its world, where an audience can finally meet it. The pipeline ends where the story begins.
"The Love which moves the sun and the other stars."
Dante did not cross the underworld alone. Virgil, the Roman poet of the Aeneid, knew the roads, named the dangers, and pointed the way. In the studio, AI plays that part. It has read everything and can show the route, but it can't take the steps. The artist walks, the artist chooses, and the artist writes the poem.
It is not a fixed workflow but an evolving creative system. Tools, techniques and ideas are tested on real projects, refined through practice, and carried forward when they make the work better.
Track new tools and methods across AI, capture, 3D and real-time.
Run each tool on a live character or scene, not a demo.
A tool stays if it raises quality or cuts time. Otherwise it leaves the board.
Write up what worked as a best practice for collaborators and students.

Artists are given a space to grow through process and play: to explore new creative tools, experiment with emerging technologies, and discover new ways of working.
